Five Book Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

This is an old topic for a Top Ten Tuesday but I thought I’d snag it because it looked really interesting and fun.
So, I couldn’t think of ten different covers of books that I wish I could redesign, but I definitely thought of five.

Okay, I love the Harry Potter books and the artwork in them, but this cover has always bothered me. How is Fawkes flying if Harry is holding his wing? And why is Fawkes’ head going the opposite way from its body? Look at the talons–they’re facing to the right, but the left wing and head are facing towards the left. I’ve never been able to figure this out.
There are plenty of other Chamber of Secrets covers that I do like, though:

This book was surprisingly good! But it was definitely more of a fantasy than a romance. It maybe had one romantic scene, but it was only PG-13…nothing too steamy. Definitely nothing to warrant this cover. I felt kind of embarrassed to carry it around with me, even though the story was so good I didn’t want to put it down.

YOU HAD ONE JOB. Seriously, if the white lines and uncentered text weren’t enough to make you turn away from this cover, just look at that chin! There was definitely a Photoshop error there. It looks like a child tried to do this on Paint. It’s so sad because this is one of my all-time favorite books.

Thankfully, there are different versions of this cover, but the girl-face-closeup is probably the most popular, which disappoints me.

This book was amazing. But I honestly had no desire to pick it up until the movie came out. The cover didn’t look interesting! It wasn’t inviting. And I hate when the author’s name is bigger than the title of the book. And what are those things on the left side–hair? Scratches? I just don’t get it.
I actually prefer the movie tie-in version:

What is with this flower? I get that all the twilight books have this black and red theme and while I like that, this flower is completely meaningless. Even the author is clueless as to what it means.

Do you guys know of any books that have really bad covers? Do you judge books based on the covers? (I completely do.) Do you like any of the covers on this list? Let me know in the comments!

Ooooh I love this topic! Yeah, that one of Never Let Me Go is just weird O_O I'm pretty sure I could design a better cover!

YES and YES to all of them. Ergh to that Never Let ME Go one, though, my OCD is tingling. Also I totally agree about the Gillian Flynn. Is that hair? Rope fibre? I DON'T EVEN KNOW.

Agreed! It's like someone forgot they were supposed to design a cover and then did it too quickly.

And the Gone Girl cover tells you NOTHING about the novel. Which, okay, I guess that's fine, but it's not okay to mislead you into thinking what the novel is about, which it also does. So frustrating!
