I have finished devouring Gilmore Girls.

Gilmore Girls came on Netflix a few months ago. It excited a lot of people. I was one of them.

Because while I had seen a good portion of the first few seasons, I had never watched the full show and a lot of the episodes I had seen were not consecutive.
Well I’m [happy? sad? pleased? distraught?] to tell you that I have finished all that is Gilmore Girls.

But, funny story.
So last night, I took the leap and clicked to watch that last episode, even though it was pushing midnight. So I’m halfway through the episode and our internet connection goes down. Like, really down. Deacon fixes it, but by that time he was ready for bed and my momentum had been lost and I decided to just watch the rest today.
Okay, so this afternoon I watched the last 20 minutes of the episode.
All in all, I thought it was good. I had heard bad things about the finale and I had really low expectations given how downhill I thought the show had gone. In fact, I was waiting to write a blog post about it. I think the acting and writing was horrible for the last few seasons. There were some episodes that I physically turned off because it was so bad. But, I persevered. And really, I thought the finale was charming. It even made me cry a little.

I was sitting in the bathtub just now and it came to me.

I guess I didn’t realize this because I stopped watching the episode halfway through. In the previous episode, Rory denies his marriage proposal, which I didn’t get too worked up about because I knew there was another episode and a lot of things can  happen.
But no. That was it. That was the end of that story arc.

And look, I never really liked Logan. I hated him at first. I wanted Rory to be with Marty. I hated the way Logan changed her, the bad influence he was, how he almost ruined her academic pursuits. He was arrogant, irresponsible, and sometimes just rude. But his character did grow and those parts of him mostly vanished. You saw that he was charming and that he did care for Rory and that his influence wasn’t entirely bad…you saw her character become a little more refined, with cooking and cleaning and the way she dressed and presented herself.

And look, my one concern about the finale was that it would be centered around Rory and Lorelai ending up with a man. What makes the show good is that these are strong, independent female characters. Sure, there’s some romance involved, but these characters are not defined by it. And I am so unbelievably glad that the finale didn’t go down this road. Sure, it was a part of it, but only a small part.

But I’m not happy about the way they ended Rory and Logan’s relationship.

I am glad that she chose her career over him if she felt that was where her priority was. But my problem is…did we really have evidence that that was where her priority was? Rory is a pretty private person, but we were told over and over that she loved Logan. And maybe some blame should be put on him for giving her an ultimatum…marriage or end of relationship. She wasn’t ready to get married, which was okay. But that didn’t mean that she wouldn’t be ready in the future.

I just can’t believe that he wasn’t in the last episode at all.

And a side note, I also kind of wish that Jess and Dean were in the finale. Just a cameo or something. But that’s just me fangirling.
After recently finishing this series, this was definitely the closure I needed when Rory denied Logan. Girl you went off the deep end

But overall, I think the finale was better than what I expected. I feel like they weren’t sure whether or not there would be another season, which could explain a few things. But as it stands…not bad.
What did you guys think? Did you like it/dislike it? Let me know!

Gilmore Girls is one of the main things I watched as a kid. Never missed an episode. I was a devout GG fan. I love that you watched it! (:
