(I wrote half of this over a week ago for Top Ten Tuesday on 6/13, but then the internet went down at my house for a few days and then we visited family and didn’t get back until Monday night. So I’m a mess. I’m posting this retroactively and will post this week’s actual Top Ten Tuesday…sometime soon.)
Father’s Day is coming! Which means that this week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about dads. For the mother’s day theme, I saw a lot of people write about books their mom loves. My mom isn’t much of a reader so I totally didn’t even think about doing that, but my dad reads all the time (though our tastes are very different. He likes biographies and romance novels? idk), and my father-in-law likes to listen to audiobooks. So for today, I asked each of them to list their top 5.
Today I’m linking up for a Top Ten Tuesday!
This week’s theme: father’s day freebie
My dad’s favorite books:
1. Character of the Ground: A History of Darrell Cole and Flat River // Willa Hassle
Quick story about this one: it’s a biography of Darrel S. Cole, a war hero and Medal of Honor winner that was born in my hometown, and the author is a retired teacher of the high school I went to. Deacon’s grandma gave the book to his dad (who I think had the author as a teacher in high school), and then he gave it to me, and I gave it to my dad, and apparently my dad loved it.
2. John Wayne: The Life and Legend // Scott Eyman
3. Lucky Bastard // Joe Buck
4. Kate Remembered // A. Scott Berg
5. (tie) His Bright Light: The Story of My Son, Nick Traina // Danielle Steel
5. (tie) Message from Nam // Danielle Steel
My father-in-law’s favorite books:
(in categories because he’s indecisive)
5. First Favorite Book
He Was a Midwestern Boy on His Own // Bob Greene
The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee // Sarah Silverman
Born Standing Up // Steve Martin
Bossypants // Tina Fey
I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend // Martin Short
Zombie Spaceship Wasteland // Patton Oswalt
2. “Pseudo-Smart-People” Books
Outliers: The Story of Success // Malcolm Gladwell
1. David Sedaris
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim
currently listening to: Dismantle by Peter Sandberg
Super thanks to my dad & father-in-law for helping me with this. 😀
Are you a dad? What is your dad’s favorite book?
