2017 Total Solar Eclipse

I know you’re probably tired of hearing this, especially if you live outside the US or way outside the path of totality. But I live in the middle of Missouri, so the total solar eclipse was kind of a big deal for everyone here.

(also I made a playlist while you read this. enjoy)

I decided to take off of work so I could go to my hometown to see it because Rolla was just outside of the line of totality. They were closing the office so everyone could see it, but the sun wouldn’t have been 100% obscured.

My hometown, however, was right in the path of totality, so I went there to watch it with my family. (Deacon wasn’t able to come, though, because today was actually the first day of Fall classes.)

I’ve gotta admit, I was thinking that this eclipse was pretty overhyped. But it was extraordinary. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in my life, and I’m so glad I decided to go home to see it. I knew that the sky would go dark, but I didn’t realize it would get as dark as it did. You could see stars, and there was a sunset effect on the horizon, and the sensor lights on our house came on, and the shadows leading up to the eclipse were little crescents. It was so bizarre and beautiful.

I didn’t have a filter for my camera, so I was only able to capture totality. I wasn’t really expecting to get good pictures, to be honest. It wasn’t the main focus for me. I just wanted to experience it. But I’m really happy with the way the photos came out!

Let me know if you got to see the solar eclipse and if you had any parties or family gatherings!
(anyone watch The Day of Black Sun episodes from ATLA?)

Thank you! I was super lucky on all accounts. What are the odds that it just happened to go through my hometown? And I’m glad I remembered the tripod. The pictures would have been awful without it!

I’m so happy you got to make the trip home to see this, I’m jealous! (Also, I’m about to go through all your posts so you might be attacked with comments.)
