10 #Korrasami moments that make my heart sing // Ships I Ship

Korra Asami Cute Moments

I have to be honest to you all: I did not treat Korrasami very well upon the finale of The Legend of Korra.

I wrote an extensive post explaining my thoughts on the finale, and I was not very supportive of Korrasami. My reasoning was that it felt underdeveloped, especially compared to the relationship between Korra and Mako (I had always been a die-hard Makorra fan).

That was 2014. Since then, I’ve had a lot of time to think about it. I’ve rewatched the series a few times. I’ve read the first edition of Turf Wars. I’ve seen the fan reactions (both positive and negative). And I’ve changed my views.

It’s a hard thing to admit, but I was wrong about Korrasami. I judged way too quickly and too harshly. I was a source of negativity in the midst of a monumental achievement for LGBT+ representation. So today, since it’s almost Valentine’s Day and a free love-themed Top Ten Tuesday, I’ll be continuing my “Ships I Ship” topic from last year and looking at 10 Korra/Asami on-screen moments that make my heart sing.

Today I’m linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for a Top Ten Tuesday!

This week’s theme: love freebie

When Asami brings Korra tea.

Because she thought Korra “might be cold.”
She just wanted an excuse to talk to her and we all know it.

When Korra consoles Asami and they decide to travel to the Spirit World together.

Because everyone else got to go to the Spirit World back in season 2, except for Asami, who was taking care of Korra’s father.

Although their relationship surprised me at first, I’ve come to really, really love them together. It’s so wonderful to see two strong, independent women portrayed in a show aimed at a younger audience, and even more wonderful to see how their relationship grew into something deeper. They are so kind to each other and understanding, and their entire relationship has been very mature (much more than when Korra dated Mako).

I’m thinking I’ll do another post of these of my favorite Korrasami moments in the comics. 🙂 I’ve really enjoyed seeing more of them in Turf Wars and watching their relationship develop.

Special thanks to this post and this post for being great references while I brainstormed this list.

YESSSSS! I loved both Avatar: The Last Airbender (and I even have a HUGE stuffed Appa) and Avatar: The Legend of Korra, so thank you for reminding me how wonderful this series is.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!

Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, I was surprised about WE ARE OKAY winning the Printz but I wasn’t surprised that THE HATE U GIVE didn’t win because all the chatter about it was that it wasn’t very well written. I thought it’s message was so strong. I was happy it won an Honor, at least.

I am glad it won an honor. I hadn’t heard anyone say that it wasn’t very well written…I’ve only heard overwhelmingly positive reviews, but that just might be my corner of the internet. To be honest, I was a just a little disappointed when I read it. I thought it would be more impactful, but I still thought that it was great and I acknowledge that I’m a very picky reader. 🙂

It seems like the Printz award goes for writing with more figurative language, which might be what fueled the decision. I assume that the writing in We Are Okay is more poetic and literary than in The Hate U Give.

I started watching the Avatar series many years after even TLOK finished, so I went into TLOK expecting and anticipating Korrasami, and tbh I was a bit disappointed… Haha because of this one edited gif floating around tumblr I thought they’d actually kissed in the show :,( alas….. But I did really enjoy the first turf war installment, I can’t wait to get around to the second one!

Yeah, you definitely have to be careful of GIFs and fan-created art online. Their relationship is super subtle in the show, but the fandom has completely made Korrasami their own. 🙂 I’m glad they finally get their kiss in Turf Wars!
