top 5 new-to-me authors I read in 2017.

I read a lot of new authors in 2017! I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5. These are authors I will be watching out for in the future, and I plan to read more of their books in 2018! (Also note that V. E. Schwab didn’t make the cut because I technically read the first Shades of Magic book at the end of 2016.)

Today I’m linking up with The Broke and the Bookish for a Top Ten Tuesday!

This week’s theme: Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2017

5) Leigh Bardugo
I read the original Grisha trilogy this year and while I didn’t much care for it, I’m looking forward to reading Six of Crows and The Language of Thorns in 2018.

4) Nina LaCour
I read Everything Leads to You and Hold Still this year and was pretty impressed. I’m hoping to get to We Are Okay in 2018.

3) Patrick Ness
Can you believe I waited until 2017 to read anything by Patrick Ness? But I went for it in 2017 with The Rest of Us Just Live Here and A Monster Calls. I liked both of them but they were very, very different. I still want to read his Chaos Walking trilogy and maybe Release.

2) Noelle Stevenson
I started off the year right by reading Nimona, which was so precious and endearing. Then I went on to Lumberjanes and was a little sad to find out that Stevenson isn’t really a main contributor to the series (she helped developed the characters but isn’t the primary writer or artist), but I enjoyed them nonetheless. I’ll be watching out for more from her.

1) E. K. Johnston
E. K. Johnston blew me away with Exit, Pursued By a Bear this year, and then I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that she wrote the Ahsoka book. I also bought That Inevitable Victorian Thing (which was released in 2017),  but didn’t find time for it, so it’s one of my top priorities in 2018.

I love Nina’s writing too! Have you read “You Know Me Well” her collab with David Levithan? It’s kinda short, but good nevertheless.

I didn’t even know she did a collab with David Levithan! I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for letting me know!
